Net Metering (For Domestic Consumers)
Net metering allows you to offset your energy bills by utilising the energy your solar system generates. Here’s how it works:
How It Works:
- The energy you export to the grid is subtracted from the energy you import from the grid.
- The net energy (imported or exported) is either billed or credited based on your consumption and the applicable retail tariff.
Ideal For:
- Residential consumers who want to reduce their electricity bills while contributing to renewable energy adoption.
Net Billing/Feed-in (For LT and HT Consumers)
Net billing provides a financial credit for the solar energy you export, offsetting your imported energy costs.
How It Works:
- Energy you import is billed at the retail tariff.
- Energy you export is credited at a pre-determined feed-in tariff.
- The net monetary value (import - export) determines the amount you pay or get credited.
Ideal For:

Gross Metering (For All Categories)
Gross metering allows you to sell the entire amount of solar energy generated by your system to TANGEDCO.
How It Works:
- The entire solar energy generated is sent to the grid.
- Payment is provided at the applicable feed-in tariff rate for the total energy exported to the grid.
Ideal For:
- For users who wish to sell excess solar energy generated.
High Tension (HT) Consumers
Gross metering enables you to sell the entire solar energy your system generates to TANGEDCO.
For Solar Capacities of 1–999 kW:
- Operates under the net-feeding methodology, combining export credits with cost offsets.
For Solar Capacities Above 1 MW:
- Operates in parallel mode, using reverse power relays to manage energy flow efficiently.
