The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has established comprehensive guidelines to facilitate the integration of Solar Rooftop Photovoltaic (SRTPV) systems with the state’s electricity grid. Net Metering Arrangement

Eligibility:
- Consumers who choose not to participate in Net Metering or Net Billing.

Capacity Limits at Distribution Transformer Level
- The cumulative capacity of all renewable energy generating systems connected to a particular distribution transformer or feeder shall not exceed 70% of its rated capacity.
- The Distribution Licensee may allow connectivity exceeding 70% based on a detailed load study.
Inter-Connection and Safety Standards
- Inter-connection of the renewable energy system with the distribution network must comply with the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) standards.
- Systems may include storage solutions, provided they prevent power flow into the grid during the absence of grid supply.
- Adequate protection measures must be in place to prevent islanding in case of grid failure.
